It will take two more weeks to get 10,000 Syrian immigrants to Canada.
That’s from Immigration Minister John McCallum, who said he’s confident the Liberal promise of bringing in 25,000 Syrians by the end of February will be upheld.
McCallum says 6,000 immigrants have landed in Canada, but the government has approved over 10,000 applications.
Health Minister Jane Philpott says she hopes Canadians focus on welcoming those who have come to the country, and not the deadline.
The two Liberal Ministers spoke to a crowd of reporters at Pearson International Airport Thursday.
