This Sunday – July 23rd – marks the 50th anniversary of the start of the infamous Detroit Riot in 1967 – that ‘black day in July’. Ironically, Monday is also the anniversary of the founding of Detroit in 1701.

And so, I’m spotlighting songs about Motor City – the next in our year-long series of city-salutes … rockin’ soul songs that pay tribute to Detroit.
