A four-day hearing begins today at Osgoode Hall as the Ford PCs begin their $30 million dollar taxpayer funded challenge of the Trudeau Liberals federal carbon tax. Lawyers for the Ontario government are challenging the constitutionality of the Federal government’s Greenhouse Gas Pollution Pricing Act. The climate-change law imposes carbon taxes on fossil fuels in the four provinces they have not implemented their own pricing plan. Premier Doug Ford and fellow Conservative Premiers in New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have denounced the law as an illegal tax grab which will strain the economy. But, the Federal Liberals say a carbon tax is a price on pollution and aims to fill in the gaps where provincial measures aren’t enough to fight climate change. Gas prices went up in Ontario by 4.4 cents a litre on April 1st. Libby speaks with Peter Tabuns, Toronto Danforth NDP MPP, Jennifer Stewart, President and CEO The Canadian Independent Petroleum Marketers Association and MPP Stephen Lecce, King-Vaughan.
