A new report shows there’s been a dramatic rise in the number of seniors using food banks in Ontario. The 2018 Hunger Report, released by the Ontario Association of Food Banks revealed more than 500,000 thousand people turned to a food bank last year alone! This is why The Ontario Association of Food Banks is calling on both the Ontario and Federal governments to implement policies which will reverse the need for seniors who must use food banks. We speak with CARP’s President in the Halton region Tom Carruthers about dealing with the key cause of this poverty as well as Lisa Hartford, the National Communications Lead at CARP and The Chair of the Board of Directors for The Ontario Association of Food Banks, who produced the report, Michael Maidment.
