Legislation is set to be introduced outlining how Ontario will handle next month’s legalization of recreational cannabis. Attorney General Caroline Mulroney explained yesterday a crown corporation will tightly regulate the province’s private cannabis retail marketplace, including the initial online sales. She also promised that efforts will be made to keep children from acquiring pot and municipalities will have an option to opt out of hosting pot shops. And Finance Minister Vic Fedeli warned there will be a “zero tolerance” policy regarding illegal pot shops. Anyone looking to open a marijuana shop will have to apply for both a retail-operator licence and a retail store authorization for each potential location. Jane Brown speaks with pot advocate Neev Tapiero and former addictions counselor currently running for Councillor Ward 3/Witchchurch/Stouffville about how legalization may change the way we live.
