New numbers confirm that Ontarians pay the highest rates in the country for both Hydro and car insurance and that as we know is linked to government policies. Remember, back In 2013 the Liberals promised to reduce car insurance premiums by an average of 15 per cent by August 2015? They had to make that promise to get the NDP to support the then minority government . By the time this deadline passed, they had a majority and Premier Kathleen Wynne characterized the promise as a “stretch goal.” A report by the province’s auto insurance adviser found that the average auto insurance premium in Ontario is $1,458, which is almost 55 per cent higher than the average of all other Canadian jurisdictions, despite having the lowest level of fatalities. PC Finance Critic Fedeli shared his thoughts on this issue with us.
