Independent Senator Pamela Wallin will not face any criminal charges relating to questionable expense claims.
In a terse statement the RCMP says it’s ”completed its thorough investigation,” and after consulting with the Crown, the Mounties have determined ”no criminal charges will be laid against Senator Wallin and will be concluding its investigational file”.
Wallin No Charges
Wallin says she’s ”relieved the nightmare is over” and will be speaking with her lawyer to see might come next.
She always maintained her office might have made errors in filing the claims, has apologized and paid back $154,191.29.
The decision not to lay charges comes less than a month after Senator Mike Duffy was cleared of all 31 charges he faced relating to his living expenses, travel claims and service contracts.
Senator Patrick Brazeau and retired senator Mac Harb have been charged and are awaiting trial.
