Musicians at another American orchestra are facing a lockout.

The Atlanta Symphony locked out its musicians on the weekend after a deadline passed without a new contract.

It’s the second lockout in as many years for the orchestra.

Management had proposed a 4.5% increase over four years. The musicians wanted 15% over five years. That’s essentially what they gave up in bitter negotiations two years ago.

Another issue is the size of the orchestra and how vacancies will be filled.

The two sides will continue negotiating, but there is no guarantee that the Atlanta Symphony’s 70th anniversary season will begin as scheduled on September 25th.
