Ontario’s New Democrats say they’re getting lots of feedback from people on whether to support the minority Liberal government’s budget or force an election.

NDP Leader Andrea Horwath isn’t saying if most of the public responses are in favour of an election or not, but says the majority agree the Liberals are not trustworthy when it comes to taxpayers’ money.

Many New Democrats say the government should be defeated for spending at least $585 million to cancel gas plants to save Liberal seats in Oakville and Mississauga.

Horwath predicts the NDP caucus will have a heated debate over the budget, which included many of their requests such as a cut in auto insurance premiums and more money for welfare and home care services.

Horwath isn’t saying how long she’ll keep consulting people before the NDP decide if they’ll vote for the budget, abstain and allow the Liberals to pass it themselves, or join with the Progressive Conservatives to defeat the government.

PC Leader Tim Hudak is urging the NDP to support his party’s non-confidence motion on the gas plants scandal, saying the Liberals should face a vote in the legislature on the politically motivated decisions.
