World leaders have increased pressure on Russia for its 15-month-old war against Ukraine, with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in attendance as a guest on the final day of the G-7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also met privately today with Zelenskky after the Ukrainian leader spoke with U.S. President Joe Biden. Trudeau said the Canadian military will continue to provide support training to Ukraine’s forces.

Trudeau says Ukraine would not be standing today if allies were not there to support it when Russian troops invaded early last year and countries pushing for a ceasefire must recognize Russia is squarely to blame.

Trudeau was attending the G-7 leaders summit as it wrapped up today in Japan, hosted by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. He says holding the summit in Hiroshima has special significance in light of what he calls Russia’s reckless nuclear rhetoric.

Trudeau also said Russia’s irresponsible nuclear rhetoric, along with threats from North Korea and uncertainty around Iran, have brought home the need to remember the dangers of nuclear disaster.
