Parts of southern Ontario, in particular southern Georgian Bay and the Niagara Region, are bracing for what could be near record snow falls.
The Weather Network is predicting upwards of 80 cms of snow by Sunday north of Barrie, up through Muskoka and Parry Sound, Grey Bruce County, the Niagara Region, Prince Edward County and the Kingston area.
Lake-effect snow bands are expected to come ashore from Lake Huron, Georgian Bay, Lake Erie and eastern Lake Ontario driven by gusting south westerly winds.
The Toronto area is expected to receive a dusting to 2 cms of new snow over the weekend while 90 kms to the south Buffalo and western New York are already under a state of emergency.
