The old town of York was incorporated as The City of Toronto on March 6th, 1834. Next week marks our 190th birthday and, as I do most years, I’m dedicating the next ‘Vintage Favourites’ spotlight to songs about our city. You’ll hear Canadian icons Gordon Lightfoot and Bruce Cockburn sing our praises, as well as surprises by The Shuffle Demons, Matt Dusk and Liona Boyd. From the swing era’s Ozzie Williams to ‘new wave’ by Martha and the Muffins; iconic songs about our ‘new’ subway, our amazing sports teams, and that best-of-all city anthems, ‘People City’, by Tommy Ambrose.
And the show’s first hour is still ‘The Sunday Sock Hop’ – bringing back dance floor memories from the Fabulous Fifties and the early Sixties. I sure hope you’ll join me for this Sunday’s ‘Vintage Favourites’ from 2:00 to 4:30pm.
