This month marks the 50th anniversary of ‘Love’s Theme’ hitting #1 as one of the first disco chart-toppers. Other classics like ‘Rock the Boat’, ‘Rock Your Baby’ and ‘T.S.O.P.’ (‘The Sound of Philadelphia’) followed later that year, marking disco’s emergence from the clubs and on to the pop charts and Top 40 radio. Of course there were earlier pioneers and disco’s ‘glory years’ were still to come. But 1974 was Disco music’s breakthrough year.
I’ll explore ‘The Disco Decade’ with 19 of the best dance classics from George McCrae and Van McCoy to Gloria Gaynor, Donna Summer, K.C. & The Sunshine Band and The Bee Gees. With the lit dance floor beneath our feet and the mirror ball high above, we’ll let our memories and fantasies take us dancing The Hustle !
And in the show’s first hour – the dance moves of an earlier era – at ‘The Sunday Sock Hop’ with Elvis and Dion, Platters and Sam Cooke and many others. I hope you’ll join me for this Sunday’s very danceable ‘Vintage Favourites’ between 2:00 and 4:30pm.
