It was the US Thanksgiving weekend in 1987, when one of the funniest and charmingly tender comedies premiered – telling the story of how ‘Neil’, an advertising executive, heading home for the holiday, meets ‘Del’, a shower curtain ring salesman. Their mis-adventures made for a hilarious and touching movie – which has become an annual tradition for many.
Looking back on it, I was inspired to fit some appropriate songs into an ‘homage’ to the famous John Hughes-directed comedy. You’ll hear a wide range of music genres and eras, as I retrace Neil and Del’s route via planes, trains and automobiles. It’ll be fun, and I hope you’ll join ‘the ride’.
I’ll also have a Vintage Canadiana birthday-palooza with salutes to Holly Cole, Nelly Furtado and Jim Cuddy, along with the late Robert Goulet, Denny Doherty of the Mamas and Papas and folk legend Stan Rogers.
In the show’s first hour – ‘Our Sunday Best – A Century of #1 Hits‘ I’ll play songs that were on top of the charts this week in the 1930s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. I’ll also tell you ‘The Story Behind the Song‘ ‘We Built This City’ by Starship. That’s all coming up on the next ‘Vintage Favourites’ this Sunday, Nov.26th at 2pm.
