As we approach the final few shows in 2017, I’m looking back at the highlights of some of the past year’s programs. Last week I checked the best of the ‘music-cities’, and this Sunday, the ‘best of the rest’ – like the 50th anniversaries of the ‘Sgt.Pepper’ album and the historic ‘Monterey Pop Festival’. There was also the 60th anniversary of ‘American Bandstand’ and 75th birthday salutes to Paul McCartney, Brian Wilson, Carole King and Barbra Streisand, not to mention the 100th anniversary of the birth of Dean Martin. Yeah – it was quite a year, and if you missed some of the ‘Vintage Favourites’ shows, check out these highlights.
I’m also looking ahead and seeing a big birthday coming up soon. Because of our Christmas show and our annual year-ending ‘In Memoriam’ feature, I’m going to celebrate Burton Cummings turning 70 on New Year’s Eve a bit early this Sunday – with tunes from his Guess Who and solo years – including his hilarious imitation of Gordon Lightfoot singing ‘Maggie May’. You gotta hear that. So, take a breather from the seasonal grind, and relax for a couple hours with ‘Vintage Favourites’ this Sunday at 2.
