While the Delta variant of COVID-19 continues to be the dominant strain around the world, scientists are sounding the alarm that a new variant dubbed ‘Mu’…which has already been detected in Ontario…contains a set of mutations indicating it could be resistant to neutralizing antibodies arising from vaccination and infection.
Right now cases of Mu, or B.1.621 as it’s officially known, are very small compared to those of the highly transmissible Delta. Since Mu was first detected in Colombia in January, the variant has spread to some 42 countries, including Canada and all 50 U.S. states. Here in Ontario, the variant was first detected on June 23rd and has since been found 168 times in the province, mostly in the GTA.
Libby Znaimer is joined by Dr. Timothy Sly, an epidemiologist and professor at the school of Occupational and Public Health at Ryerson University to explore this Mu variant.
With just one week left until the federal election, Libby Znaimer is joined by Erin O’Toole, Leader of the Conservative Party of Canada to discuss what his party has to offer Canadians.
