DR. DIRK HUYER ON GETTING ADULTS 80 AND OLDER REGISTERED FOR 2ND VACCINE APPOINTMENTS

Libby Znaimer is joined by Dr. Dirk Huyer, Ontario’s Chief Coroner and Coordinator of the Provincial Outbreak Response.

This past Monday, adults ages 80 and older in Ontario could start booking their appointments for their second COVID-19 vaccine doses. Despite the good news, we’ve been hearing a lot from our very own listeners about the challenges they’ve been facing in trying to get their turns.

NACI SAYS CANADIANS CAN MIX COVID-19 VACCINE DOSES

Libby Znaimer is joined by Dr. Susy Hota, Medical Director of Infection Prevention and Control at the University Health Network (UHN), and Dr. Timothy Sly, an epidemiologist and professor at The School of Occupational and Public Health at Ryerson University.

This week, NACI issued a statement recommending the mixing of COVID-19 vaccine doses in certain situations. Meanwhile, experts are warning that we need to be vigilant about a particularly aggressive and fast-spreading variant of COVID-19 despite the increase in vaccinations. Our infectious diseases experts weigh in on the latest and answer your questions.

INDIGENOUS HISTORY MONTH & THE KAMLOOPS RESIDENTIAL SCHOOL TRAGEDY

Libby Znaimer is joined by Cat Criger, an Indigenous Elder, Traditional Teacher and Knowledge Keeper, Santee Smith, founding and managing artistic director of Kaha:wi Dance Theatre and the Chancellor of McMaster University as well as Dr. Veldon Coburn, professor of Indigenous studies at the University of Ottawa.

June marks Indigenous History Month, but it comes at a very painful time. The buried remains of 215 Indigenous child victims of a Kamloops, BC residential school were found in late May. Today, we hear from an all-Indigenous panel on how this discovery has impacted their communities and why we need to educate current and future generations of Canadians about the horrific and painful history of our country’s residential school system.

A national Indigenous Residential School Crisis Line is available to provide support for former student survivors and anyone affected. You can access this service by calling the 24-hour national crisis line: 1-866-925-4419.
