New data obtained by the CBC indicates that Canada’s recruitment of international students has failed to match the needs of the job market.

Data indicates that colleges and universities accepted far more foreign students into business programs as opposed to high-demand fields such as healthcare, IT or the trades.

And, many students who graduate from those business programs are finding it extremely hard to land a job in their chosen field, while at the same time having the burden of paying off large tuition fees and living expenses.

Colleges and universities have recruited nearly 600,000 international students to various business programs over the past six years, far exceeding any other field.

The federal government is cutting the allotment of international students by 50%, and it’s believed business programs will be most impacted.
