If you still send birthday cards and other special occasion cards in the mail, you now have to pay more for your stamps.
As of May 6th, the cost of a single stamp is a $1.15, up from a $1.07.
If you buy stamps in a booklet, coil or pane, the cost per stamp is 99-cents, a 7-cent increase.
Dave Korzinski of Angus Reid told Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with Libby Znaimer, older Canadians still rely on the mail service, and would miss having it if it were gone.
“The 65-plus group, 85-percent say that they would agree that it would cause some hardship,” Korzinski explained, “So I think it’s still a big problem to solve, and there’s a little bit more of a national identity I think for older Canadians with the mail service, because we grew up with, I say we because I’m just about 40, but I pre-dated the internet, so I feel like I can say we.”

On May 3rd, Canada Post announced that it recorded a loss before tax of $748-million dollars in 2023. It stated that the loss was due to a surge in competition, increasing operating costs, and “ongoing erosion of Transaction Mail.”
