Hockey has its referees, baseball its umpires and Parliament Hill its speaker, who gave Pierre Poilievre several chances to withdraw what the Conservative leader called the prime minister for supporting B.C.’s policy of decriminalizing some hard drugs in an effort to reduce overdose related deaths.
”When will we put an end to this wacko policy by this wacko prime minister,” said Poilievre to the delight of his caucus that cheered loudly.
That’s when Speaker Greg Fergus stepped in and repeatedly asked Poilievre to withdraw the ”unparliamentary language.”
He refused, saying only that he’d agree to replace ”wacko” with ”extremist” or ”radical.”
The speaker had enough and kicked Poilievre out, who was followed out by his caucus.
Later on X, the Opposition leader posted that Fergus ”censored” him.
In a written statement, the Conservatives said the word’s been used many times over the years before being deemed unparliamentary.
