As Live Aid; the benefit concert for Ethiopian famine relief, approaches its 40th anniversary comes word a musical about it will make its North American premiere at the CAA Ed Mirvish Theatre January 28 to March 16, 2025.

”Just for One Day” made its world premiere earlier this year at the Old Vic in London, where it received mixed reviews from critics but sold out its 9-week run in record time for a musical there.

Irish singer-songwriter Bob Geldof, who helped organize the concert, saw it five-times.

The jukebox musical’s title comes from a lyric in David Bowie’s song ”Heroes,” which was performed July 13, 1985 simultaneously at London’s Wembley Stadium and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia.

An estimated 1.5-billion tuned into the concert, that ultimately raised more than $140-million.

Producers say 10% of ticket sales will be donated to the Live Ban Charitable Trust, which supports organizations fighting famine and poverty.

”Just for One Day” will replace ”Mamma Mia!” in Mirvish’s 2024-25 subscription season.

While not part of the main stage lineup it will still run in Toronto for five-weeks this fall.
