”When you hang out outside, when you have to go you just have to go,” chuckled Mayor Olivia Chow who removed the closed sign from the bathing station at Woodbine Beach.
”We are opening the washrooms earlier this year. It’s not yet May but we have a head start. 80% of the city of Toronto washrooms are now open,” thanks to the warmer than usual temperatures this month.
The remaining park washrooms will be opened by Friday May 3.
More than $180-million annually goes toward the maintenance, staffing and operation of the more than 1,500 City parks that includes the opening and maintenance of seasonal washrooms.
Drinking water fountains and bottle-filling stations connected to the washrooms are also being opened with other drinking sources, such as standalone water fountains, bottle filling stations and dog bowls, expected to be ready over the next several weeks.
Splash and spray pads open May 17 with all outdoor pools and wading polls open June 28.
