It’s being reported Honda has reached an electric vehicle deal with the Ontario and federal governments.

An announcement is expected this week from the Trudeau Liberals and the Ford Progressive Conservatives for a multi-billion dollar deal that will see Honda Motor Co. Ltd. build a comprehensive electric vehicle chain in the province.

According to the Globe and Mail, the deal with Honda includes a stand-alone battery-manufacturing plant, a re-tooled car assembly plant as well as facilities for both cathode materials and separator components.

While speaking at First Nations conference in Toronto Monday, Premier Doug Ford teased what he said is the largest deal in Canadian history.

“So stay tuned, we’ll be announcing it this week, and sorry to tease the crowd…but it’s coming this week, so it’s great, it’s right across the region. Everyone’s going to benefit from Northern Ontario, first nations’ communities and flowing all the way through to the manufacturer,” Ford hinted.

According to this morning’s report, the battery and assembly plants will be in Alliston. The other two plants will also both be in Ontario.

To date, federal and provincial governments have committed as much as $33-billion in production subsidies to land three EV battery factories – up to $15-billion for Stellantis, up to $13.2 billion for Volkswagen in Ontario and up to $4.6-billion for Northvolt AB in Quebec.
