We are on the verge of March Break 2024, the busiest travel week of the year, and a statement from Toronto’s Pearson Airport says it’s expecting bigger crowds than last year.
“Better to wait there (at the airport) than wait at home and miss a flight,” said Martin Firestone of Travel Secure Inc. on Zoomer Radio’s Fight Back with guest host Marissa Lennox, on getting to the airport early.
He also gave some advice on travel insurance.
“Everybody who leaves Canada needs medical insurance,” Firestone explained, “I think people have that figured out that OHIP does not cover you when you travel (outside the country). So, you need emergency medical. But what is really going through the roof now is cancellation and interruption because you’re paying a fair dollar. It is non-refundable whether it be the flight, your Airbnb, hotel, tour guide, you have to back it up with cancellation in the event you could not go or interruption if you have to go back home, or delayed or flight cancelled.”
Up to 140,000 passengers are expected to pass through Pearson each day during March Break, an increase of nearly 10-percent over last year.
And during the busiest points of the week, nearly one-thousand flights will take off and land daily.
Travellers are encouraged to be aware of the weather and the airport’s live wait times dashboard to get a sense of what to expect.
