A Canadian sporting event that pre-dates Confederation is all set to go up at Woodbine Racetrack.
The 160th running of the Queen’s Plate takes place this afternoon. It’s the first jewel of the Canadian horse racing Triple Crown.
It was founded in 1860–that’s a full seven years before Canada became a country.
Ever since, it’s been a time to take in a day at the races but it’s also a chance to see and be seen. Plenty of men will be in top hats while many women will be sporting fascinators.
14 horses make up the field in this year’s event. Post time is at 5:36 p.m.
The purse is a cool $1-million.
