The Ontario government announced school board funding for the 2019-20 year. While the investment is up about $100-million dollars from last year, students in Ontario are still getting less.
Higher enrollment in the province means school boards are getting less money per student. Advocates are arguing there will be fewer services and supports for students.
Under the current budget, students get $12,300 per pupil but the changes next year mean it’s $12,246. The chair of the Toronto District School Board is estimating that will lead to a $21.2-million shortfall.
