A report from the Fraser Institute confirms what many in Ontario have suspected – that residential hydro costs in the province are the highest in Canada.
Using data from Statistics Canada and Hydro Quebec, the report says home hydro costs rose 71% in Ontario between 2008 and 2016, twice the average rate of increases across the country.
The study, called “Evaluating Electricity Price Growth in Ontario,” also shows that between 2008 and 2015, electricity prices in the province increased at nearly four times the overall rate of inflation.
