Another hit movie has been made into a musical.

Doctor Zhivago will make its Broadway debut in the Spring.

The tale of five intertwined lovers set during final days of Czarist Russia has been developed into a musical under the direction of former Stratford Artistic Director Des McAnuff.

Doctor Zhivago made its world premiere in 2006 at the La Jolla Playhouse in California. A revised version opened at the Lyric Theatre in Sydney Australia in 2011.

The 1965 film version starred Omar Sharif, Julie Christie, Geraldine Chaplin, Rod Steiger and Alec Guinness. It received ten Academy Award nominations and won five Oscars, but lost the film best to The Sound of Music.

Boris Pasternak’s novel earned him the Nobel Prize for literature in 1958.

Doctor Zhivago will make its Broadway debut March 27th.
