INFO – Fire tragedies are in decline for 2012 in Ontario – 25 fewer deaths so far this year, but the holiday season can bring distractions that lead to tragedy. Fire Marshal, Ted Wieclawek, has a Holiday Wish – to make this December the most fire safe on record. To do so, the Fire Marshal is issuing a challenge to all Ontarians to be more vigilant about fire safety, during this time of year when we tend to let our guards down.
He is urging residents to get involved, learn and follow the 12 Tips of Holiday Fire Safety, developed by the Fire Marshals Public Fire Safety Council. He has also sent a challenge to all Ontario fire departments to engage their communities and local media in the program.
The official launch is happening Tuesday morning, Dec 11th beginning at 11:00. One of the highlights will be a kitchen fire demonstration / the right way and wrong way to handle a grease fire. We could potentially tee this up ahead for you.
To help spread this important message and launch the second annual 12 Days of Holiday Fire Safety campaign the Fire Marshal is making himself available to come into studio to help educate your viewers on public fire safety issues during the holidays.
The recent tragedy in Toronto is a reminder of the ever present threat of fire.
