Libby Znaimer is joined by Leader of the Official Opposition Ontario NDP, Andrea Horwath followed by Donna Duncan, CEO of Ontario Long-Term Care Association, Jane Meadus, staff lawyer and the Institutional Advocate at the Advocacy Centre for the Elderly (ACE) and Lisa Levin, CEO of AdvantAge Ontario.
In the news: for months, we’ve been continuing to learn about the deplorable situation in many long-term care homes across the province. This week, revelations surfaced of some nursing homes not providing residents with AC- a situation that Premier Doug Ford apparently had no idea about. It’s especially troubling news considering that Ontario has been experiencing a heat wave as of late. Premier Ford made his position clear on the matter and directed his anger towards facility owners saying he’d “like to stick them in the rooms for 24 hours at 30 degree heat and see how they like it.” Meanwhile, Andrea Horwath didn’t mince words and said that the Premier is “woefully ignorant” on this. On Twitter, she said, “If Ford brings in a bill tomorrow to require AC in all long-term care homes we will pass it in five minutes flat. What do you say, Mr. Ford?” Libby and our panel of long-term care experts discuss the latest developments and other aspects of this crisis hitting our Seniors hard.
