Our most vulnerable continue to bear the biggest brunt of COVID-19. Residents of long term care homes make up about half the deaths from the virus, amid staffing shortages and terrible conditions at some of the homes. The worst case is a private home in Montreal where 31 residents died and others were abandoned and left in their own filth, sometimes without food and water, while staff abandoned their posts and the owners allegedly withheld medical records until the government got a court order. There may be criminal charges in that case. Here at home in Ontario, 86 long-term care homes are experiencing outbreaks and 114 residents have died of COVID- 19 related deaths. Meanwhile, the federal government is promising new measures to protect residents. Libby and guests discuss the latest developments.
