Libby Znaimer is joined by Toronto Councillor Mike Colle for Ward 8 Eglinton-Lawrence and Andy Gort, President of South Eglinton Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association (SERRA), John Taranu, a safer streets advocate and neighbourhood resident as well as Toronto Councillor Josh Matlow for Ward 12 Toronto-St. Paul’s.

Midtown Toronto residents are calling for serious improvements to road safety conditions in the Yonge and Eglinton neighbourhood. On Monday, upwards of 250 residents took part in a community meeting that was organized by Toronto Councillors Josh Matlow Michael Colle and the office of Councillor Jaye Robinson.

In addition to a safer street design, residents are asking that tougher regulations on large vehicles like trucks be implemented so that they are safer in dense urban environments like that of midtown. Just two months ago, a 54-year-old woman was struck and killed after being hit by a cement truck driver at the intersection of Yonge Street and Erskine Avenue. So far this year, Toronto has seen 31 pedestrian deaths. Many of the victims have been seniors.
