TRUDEAU MEETS WITH NATO LEADERS IN BRUSSELS THIS WEEK
Libby Znaimer is joined by Dr. Erika Simpson, Associate Professor of International Relations at Western University and the President of the Canadian Peace Research Association (CPRA) and Dr. Andrea Charron Director, Centre for Defence and Security Studies at the University of Manitoba.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has gone to Brussels in Europe ahead of a Thursday meeting with NATO leaders at a time when the war in Ukraine appears to only intensify and casualties mount. NATO has been continuously offering support to Ukraine during the war that began a month ago but has stopped short of actually putting any troops on the ground or answering President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s call for a no-fly zone which experts warn could lead to dire consequences. Our experts assess NATO’s response so far and Canada’s role in it and they both examine Vladimir Putin’s wartime decisions.
PROPERTY TAXES AMID THE PANDEMIC
Libby Znaimer is joined by Wendy Walker, a Toronto resident, David J. Rotfleisch, founding Canadian tax lawyer of Rotfleisch & Samulovitch tax law firm and Councillor Stephen Holyday (Ward 2 Etobicoke Centre ) who is Deputy Mayor for the west area of the City.
Wendy is calling on the City to waive interest and penalty fees on late payments related to the property tax amid the pandemic. She says that the City waived such fees in 2020 and that they could do the same now. In the last City budget, we learned that residents would pay $141 in 2022. Dr. Rotfleisch and Councillor Holyday weigh in on her situation.
