In an effort to slow the second wave of COVID-19 in the province’s nursing homes, testing is being ramped up for workers in long term care homes.
“Starting next week in long term care homes within public health unit regions identified as orange, red or lockdown, staff and support workers who provide direct care will now need to be tested for COVID-19 every week,” Long Term Care Minister Dr. Merrilee Fullerton announced Wednesday.
There were 17 additional deaths related to COVID-19 in long term care announced on Wednesday.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, 2109 residents in Ontario’s nursing homes have died after contracting COVID-19.
There are currently 100 nursing homes in Ontario experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak.
