Peter MacKay is the clear front runner to succeed Andrew Scheer as leader of the Conservative party if you look at the bottom line.
He’s raised nearly $3.1-million; significantly more than any of his rivals according to the latest numbers filed by the four candidates with Elections Canada.
MP Erin O’Toole is in second spot having raised $2.5-million, Toronto lawyer Leslyn Lewis is reporting $1.8-million while MP Derek Sloan’s raised $852,000.
MacKay raised about 26% of all his donations in the last month compared with about 18% for O’Toole.
This race could go down to the wire like the one three years ago.
That’s when Maxime Bernier raised more than twice as much as Andrew Scheer and was the clear first ballot leader.
But Scheer gathered enough support on subsequent ballots to catch and defeat Bernier in the final round of voting.
Completed ballots must be received by tomorrow so they can be counted in time for an online announcement Sunday.
