Here’s some good news for Canadian tennis fans.
Canada’s Eugenie Bouchard upset the number 8 seed in straight sets (6-0, 6-3) at the Prague Open on Monday, winning her first match since January.
Bouchard is a wild card entrant and is ranked 330th in the world.
Her victory came over world No. 40 Veronika Kudermetova of Russia.
With this win, Bouchard is projected to now move up to 300th in the world.
A former world No. 5 and the Wimbledon finalist in 2014, Bouchard, 26, has tumbled down the rankings in recent years. She’s projected to move up to around No. 300 following the win Monday.
Bouchard will play the winner of a match between Tamara Zidansek of Slovenia and Katerina Siniakova of the Czech Republic in the second round.
