More GTA communities are now under mandatory masking rules to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

As of Friday July 10th, face coverings are mandatory in all inside public spaces in Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon and Durham Region.

Starting Friday July 17th, it will be mandatory to wear a face covering or mask in all York Region public indoor spaces.

Vaughan Mayor Maurizio Bevilacqua says all the political leaders in York Region are in agreement with the decision.

“We have unanimous support from the nine municipalities. All of the mayors and regional councillors are united in promoting the use of the mask to make sure that we do what is right and what is just for the people that we represent,” Bevilacqua told CP24.

It’s been mandatory for face coverings inside public spaces in Toronto since Tuesday July 7th.

Halton Region representatives meet next week to discuss a mandatory mask policy. Oakville town councillors have already given approval to the idea.
