The next phase of Ontario’s COVID-19 economic recovery plan is now underway in the City of Toronto, along with Peel Region.

Stage 2 means hair and nail salons, restaurant patios and malls may reopen with strict physical distancing restrictions.

Registration for pandemic-friendly City of Toronto Summer camps (CampTO) also began at 7am Wednesday.

And Mayor John Tory has announced ferry service to Toronto Island resumes this Saturday.

“But things will be different because we still can’t operate the ferries at full capacity for reasons of virus containment,” Tory explained, “And you will need to buy a ticket online in advance and you’ll also be required to wear a face covering while on a ferry.”

The mayor says not all of the amenities are open on the island, but there are washrooms available.

The mayor also announced that hundreds of new or expanded patios could start popping up across the city as early as Canada Day, next Wednesday.

It was earlier this month, Mayor Tory revealed a new program called “Cafe TO” would streamline the process for businesses to use public space, such as sidewalks and curb lanes for new or expanded patios.

The program also waives the fees associated with using public space for restaurant and bar patios in an effort to help businesses that have struggled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
