As we get closer to Summer, Toronto residents may be wondering whether Centre Island will be open this year.

Mayor John Tory says there are a number of factors to take into consideration related to public safety.

“We have to make sure the washrooms over there are open, we have to make sure that some of the rules that are presently in place from Transport Canada limiting us to the ferries being half full for health related reasons,” Mayor Tory explained to CP24 Wednesday morning, “And I think perhaps it will be a package deal that we would open the park first and the ferries and then the commercial establishments at that time or a bit later, but well into June at the earliest.”

Mayor Tory was quick to point out he is not the one to set the date of if or when Centreville would open. It would be based on the advice of the public health experts.
