As it officially puts out a call to the private sector for proposals to revitalize Ontario Place, the Ford government is emphasizing the future of the waterfront landmark does not include a casino nor any residential development.
”We will consider a broad range of ideas from sport and entertainment .. to public spaces and parks, recreational facilities and retail,” according to Michael Tibollo, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport.
”But I want to be clear our vision for Ontario Place does not include residential developments or casinos.  Once again, I want to repeat that.  Our vision will not have casinos or condos included as part of the Ontario Place site.”
While the province promises to work with the city to find the best ideas for the site, Mayor John Tory and other councillors are concerned Queen’s Park is rushing ahead with its own plans.
The province will accept accept proposals for the future of Ontario Place until September 3.
