After cancelling a visit to Regina,  the prime minister is holding high level, closed door discussions in Ottawa to plot next steps in the SNC-Lavalin affair.
Sources say those steps might include Justin Trudeau displaying some regret over how officials in his office behaved.
An unidentified senior government official says one option being kicked around is for the prime minister to ”show some ownership over the actions of his staff and officials” in their dealings with former attorney-general Jody Wilson-Raybould, who resigned.
Meanwhile, the day after Jane Philpott quit cabinet, Trudeau’s getting support from a high profile member of his inner-circle.
”The prime minister absolutely has my confidence,” said Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland.
She adds he has her just as Trudeau and other cabinet ministers had confidence in her during the new trade talks with the U.S. and Mexico.
Meanwhile, Wednesday morning, Trudeau’s former right hand man, Gerald Butts, is to testify before the Commons justice committee probing the SNC-Laval affair.
