The day after the sudden resignation of the prime minister’s closest adviser, Gerald Butts, the NDP has tabled a motion calling on the Trudeau government to hold a public inquiry into the SNC Lavalin scandal.
The Conservatives also support the  motion that wants to get to the bottom of allegations the Prime Minister’s Office pressured former attorney general and justice minister Jody Wilson-Raybould, to help the Montreal engineering giant avoid criminal prosecution.
Tory Leader Andrew Scheer would like the prime minister to also waive solicitor-client privilege that has kept Wilson-Raybould from telling her side of the story.
Meanwhile, she says she’s still getting legal advice on just what she can say about the affair.
The Commons Justice Committee will also meet behind closed doors this afternoon to discuss the scope of its probe and who should be called to testify.
