The United Nations is forecasting the global economy will grow by around three per cent this year and next.

But it says waning support for multilateralism, escalating trade disputes, increasing debt and rising climate risks – are clouding prospects.

The UN’s report on the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2019 also stresses – that economic growth is uneven – and often doesn’t reach countries that need it most.

The report has been released on the same day that the International Monetary Fund cut its forecast for world economic growth this year to 3.5 per cent – from 3.7 per cent last October – for many of the same reasons.
