Toronto police are warning the public about an ongoing Canada Revenue Agency telephone scam.
Police say it begins with someone phoning and claiming to be with the C-R-A.
The scammer then says the person they called owes overdue taxes.
The callers are said to be aggressive – and they often claim an arrest will be made if money isn’t paid immediately – either through Bitcoin or other crypto currencies, gift cards, credit cards – or through Western Union.
The force says C-R-A will never request payments by prepaid credit cards, gift cards or through Bitcoin or any form of crypto-currency – and they assure the public that the agency will not send police after people.
