While Toronto does not have a vehicle plant like Oshawa, John Tory says the city is affected by everything that goes on in Southern Ontario and the rest of the world, such as the announced closure of the GM plant.
The mayor feels decision makers need to ”apply every ounce of energy” they have to find an ”innovative way to use and employ” the affected workers.
Tory adds he’s willing to be part of looking for a solution to help them.
”Undoubtedly there is a way they can contribute to the future economy and it may well be to do with cars and it may not. But the bottom line is we’ve got to explore options for those people and for our own well being.”
The mayor adds the challenge at times like this is finding ways to take advantage of change, rather than resisting it.
