Four months after their big election victory and the Ford Conservative government continues to enjoy strong voter support but there’s also opposition to what it’s doing.

That’s the essence of the latest Mainstreet Research survey which finds the government currently has a 16-point lead on the NDP.

The Tories have 42% support among decided and leaning voters, an increase of 0.5% since July while the New Democrats have 28%, down 1.3%.

As for voters reaction to some moves made the past four months, 49% agree to keep the minimum wage at $14-an-hour, while 45% disagree; 39% at least somewhat agree with the government’s decision to cut funding for post-secondary campus extensions in the GTA, 39% disagree and 22% are not sure.

”Ontarians are very divided over how they feel about these decisions made by the government,” said Mainstreet Research President Quito Maggi.

”While the Ford government can take solace in the fact that they have significant support for these moves, they have to take notice that there is a good chunk of opposition to these measures as well.”
