John Tory says the city will hire a ”transit tsar” whose job it’ll be to push ahead key projects and knock down roadblocks to their completion.
The mayor made the announcement as he released details about a new transit expansion office that’s being formed within city hall.
This office, to be run by the ”tsar,” will be responsible for overseeing and facilitating everything related to transit expansion and will also serve as the only point of contact for all city divisions and other agencies involved in expansion in the city.
Two years ago city council approved a network transit plan that lists projects the city intends to build the next 15 years, including the downtown relief subway line, Scarborough subway extension and waterfront LRT.
The search for the head of the transit expansion office will begin ”immediately,” says Tory, with the ultimate goal to implement a ”laser-like focus” on getting transit built.
