A first for Canada and just in time for Christmas, iconic U.S. toy brand FAO Schwarz is opening pop-up spaces at all Hudson’s Bay stores in the Toronto-area.

The spaces, ranging in size from 300 to 1,200 square feet, will sell oversized plush animals, classic toy train sets and playmat replicas of the life-size piano Tom Hanks danced on the a scene from the 1988 movie ”Big”.
The temporary partnership comes months before the more-than-150-year-old FAO Schwarz reopened its New York flagship store after shutting down in the summer of 2015.
Might this be the thin edge of the wedge into Canada?
FAO Schwarz chief merchandising officer David Niggli won’t rule it out.
”We always consider.  We never say never,” said Niggli.
“I think we will definitely have a good read, but right now it is us and Hudson’s Bay in Canada.”
HBC President Alison Coville couldn’t say if the partnership may stick around beyond the holidays.
”We have toy departments throughout our network of stores, so depending on the customers response, if it is strong and we see opportunity, we would definitely look at expanding or doing it again.”
