The leaders of both the Ontario and Federal NDP are coming to the defence of Gurratan Singh, after a photo surfaced of the Brampton-East NDP candidate holding an anti-police sign at a Toronto demonstration in 2006.
Andrea Horwath is standing by her candidate saying he’s turned his life around since his early 20s when he was holding that sign.

”He, in fact, then went to law school and now actually upholds the law and the justice system as opposed to rallying against it,” said Horwath, who added she ”absolutely” supports Singh and repeated he is ”not of those opinions anymore.”
Jagmeet Singh, the leader of the Federal NDP, says his brother is ”absolutely embarrassed by that, apologized unequivocally and has since become a lawyer, gone on to work with first responders and the police, has an incredible amount of respect for police.”
Toronto Police Association President Mike McCormack can’t help but wonder.
”Is he apologizing because he got caught carrying the sign or is he apologizing because he’s recognized his behaviour was wrong or whatever.”
