Canadian negotiators are pushing for changes in three key areas – as leaders interested in reviving the controversial Trans-Pacific Partnership prepare to meet this week.

A senior government official says Ottawa’s negotiating team wants some modifications – primarily in the intellectual-property provisions, the treaty’s approach to culture – and Canada’s supply management system for dairy, poultry and eggs.

After U-S President Donald Trump pulled out earlier this year – the 11 remaining T-P-P economies have moved ahead with talks – with a will to  resurrect the deal.

International Trade Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne says he wants a better deal before he signs a revamped T-P-P and negotiators will be looking for the suspension of provisions – which were part of the original agreement.
